The HMRC is warning of a new scam email which is aimed at taxpayers. The new variant claims to be from HMRC and explains that the recipient is no longer eligible to receive a tax return and the recipient will need to sign up with their current details to regain access to the system.

Pwc administrators have confirmed the sale of Phones4U
Administrators at PwC have confirmed the sale of 58 Phones4U stores to the EE mobile network, a week after the chain was placed into administration, after EE joined Vodafone in cutting ties with the company.
It is claimed that the proposed ‘Mansion Tax’ will affect ‘almost exclusively’ homeowners in the south east of the country.

Can a meltdown over Scottish tax be avoided?
September 18th will see Scottish electors cast their votes in the independence referendum. A ‘No’ outcome will bring about a devolution of tax powers in Holyrood, and a ‘Yes’ outcome would bring the need for a new tax system to be created for an independent Scotland.
Amongst the uncertainty about the UK’s future with Scotland, the pound has fallen to its lowest level in 10 months.
Analysts have stated that to not consider a rise in interest rates this year would be naive. This comes as the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) splits 7-2 on maintaining the current 0.5% interest rate. The minutes from the MPC meeting were announced a week after the Bank of England’s quarterly report, which released the forecast of the annual wage growth to be half of what was earlier predicted.

Death duties hit highest level for six years
A total £3.4bn inheritance tax was paid last year – the most since 2007 – as more households were caught by the inheritance tax net, with women paying 35 per cent more than men.
The Treasury has released a consultation document as to whether non-UK residents should be restricted from entitlement to the UK personal allowance and how this might be implemented.
